Ensuring the kittens’ safety and well-being became the priority for Paul Grimes, Mayhew’s Animal Welfare Officer, who expressed the gravity of the situation, saying, “We can’t imagine how terrifying it must have been for these 10-day-old kittens to be abandoned in a bin bag. It’s worrying to think what would have happened to the kittens if they hadn’t been found so quickly.”
As orphaned kittens, Tiny, Teenie, Titch, and Smalls required round-the-clock care and vigilant guardianship. Fortunately, two dedicated foster carers stepped up to provide this essential support, offering the kittens a structured routine and unwavering attention with the hope that they would one day flourish into contented adult cats.
Despite their newfound safety, Mayhew’s Cat Welfare Coordinator, Georgina Disney, voiced her concerns about distressingly frequent cases like these, emphasizing the importance of seeking professional assistance. She stated, “This is such a difficult and time-consuming job which involves a lot of close monitoring and specialist care, that’s why it can be dangerous for anyone to try and do it themselves, so we recommend always coming to us first. We recommend seeking a vet’s advice or call us for advice as in the hands of an inexperienced person, it could be life-threatening for the kittens.”
Yet, amidst the challenges, Disney expressed profound gratitude for the experienced foster carers who courageously stepped forward. It was evident that Tiny, Teenie, Titch, and Smalls were in capable hands.
At present, the kittens remain in their tender infancy, with the primary goal of ensuring their health and happiness. When the time is right, they will receive vaccinations and undergo neutering, bringing them one step closer to finding their forever homes.
